Spring Fever

The first day of spring is just two days away,
but we've been blessed with an early spring this year.
I love it!!

So does my sweet pea.(:

So do my grape hyacinths. They're taking over my yard!!

 Anyways, new season=new decorations.

I've been slowly decorating the mantle and fireplace,
but yesterday I think I finally got it to where I want it:
Please excuse the 3/4ths painted wall and the UGLY stencil on the other wall left by the previous owner.
We're working on it! Lol and the ugly white vents, and the ugly colored wood, and the stupid popcorn paint, and the bricks are getting a make-over too!!

This was the finishing touch yesterday:
I really don't know how I even came to thinking of this lol I've never seen anything quite like it but it just sorta happened when I was making Avonlea's spring hat. I bought a TON of these hats last year for $1ea at Target. I added the flowers and the mini easter egg. At first I had just the hat up there, but it was too small and didn't take up enough room to center out everything else. I dug out a large picture frame I wasn't using, shabbied it up with 'robins egg' paint, and that was that!
I really like the trend of framing 3D objects and I've got to say, this is my favorite yet!(:

Other spring features lol:

Look how cute this fuzzy little guy is!! I loves him.
I got him at a local market but I'm pretty sure Pier One and Hobby Lobby have some similar.
I cut some scrapbook paper to wrap around my seasonal candle.

Same story here.

Ta-da! I like it(:

Get to decorating, Easter is only THREE weeks away!

Pretty Little Birdies

I'm soo happy it's almost spring, y'all!
Definitely my second favorite season! (:
The birdies outside our bedroom window have been chirping every morning around 7:30 and waking me up!
It sounds so sweet I don't mind it. Actually, I love it!
They inspired me to turn my jersey willow arrangement into a birds haven.
I had egg ornaments hanging all around it but that wasn't original enough and that's what all the pinners are doing so it needed to change.

Supplies:

Scrapbook pack from Walmart-$5
Ribbon from Hobby Lobby-$1.75
Pearl stickers from Walmart-$2
Embroidery thread from Hobby Lobby-$0.50
Jersey Willow from Sam's Club-$5
scissors
vase

I already had some of this stuff so for me to make it was about $10.
$5 for the jersey willow branches(they last for over a year if hairsprayed) and $5 for the awesome scappaper book.

I searched the web for a bird template until I found one I liked, got it to the size I wanted and traced it right on to the scrapbook paper.

I love 'em!!

Happy crafting and Happy spring!(:

UPDATE!

Hello again, my poor abandoned blog.
So sorry to have left you outdated with a spooky halloween layout for 4 1/2 months.
Wow...seriously?! I can't believe it's been so long..time is flying by.
I've been busy with buying a house, the holidays and several family visits but now I'm back!
First of all:
YAY!! We bought our first house!
It's amazing and we love it!!
3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2360sqft, dining room, two family rooms..that's just a few of MANY perks to this place!
I really adore it and if it weren't located in the only part of Texas that I loathe, I'd want to live in it forever!
(Shame on me for not taking proper pictures of it yet..I'll get to it and it will have it's own post. Promise.)

Now then,
the dust has settled.
Sooo, let me make it up to you:

Happy Thanksgiving!!
We bought the house with only FIVE days to prepare for hosting Thanksgiving for my inlaws!!
I know, I'm crazy for wanting to take it on but when I make up my mind about something there is no changing it!
I had a mostly unpacked, decorated home and pulled off cooking Thanksgiving dinner by myself for the first time well. It wasn't as pretty as I wanted and I had store bought pies lol but it was a nice and memorable first Thanksgiving in our home.

Happy 20th Birthday to me!
No picture : /
I hate my birthdays, they've never really been celebrated and normally something negative happens instead!

~

Merry Christmas!!
When it came to decorating this Christmas, I was seriously aggravated because by Black Friday, the stores up here were wiped clean since there is just ONE of every store for a 200 mile radius. -__-
Although, it was the first Christmas in a home that we owned
and my mom and siblings got to come up as well as my inlaws. (:

Happy New Years!!!
Trey's grandparents and aunt got to come spend NYE & NYD with us to celebrate Christmas and the new year.

~

Happy Valentines Day!!!
I love Valentines Day, always have, always will! A day dedicated to love is greatness(:

Happy 2nd Anniversary to us!!
March 13, yesterday, was our anniversary. I can't believe it's only been 2 years since we got married.
I feel like we've always been together. There was no beginning, there is no end, we just were.
I'm so truly blessed to have found my best friend and to be so in love this early in life.
I'm so proud of us and what our love has done and drives us to do.
To have graduated high school early, gotten married at 18, had a baby close to 19, moved 5.5 hours from our home and family to make our own start warms my heart. And only a short year later bought our first very nice house because of my hubby's success in his start to his career, having just turned 20, is just outstanding.
God has all the glory, this is his plan.

This is what blessings and God's graces are made of. He turns 'accidents' and what some call 'mistakes' into something wonderful to glorify His name. Have faith and be willing to sacrifice and He will never forsake you.

Gift For Your Realtor

Our realtor has been great at working with and for us and I wanted to give her something to know we appreciate it! So at first it was just going to be a framed letter but I had to do better than that!

I thought she'd like to have this in her office for her other clients to see.

Here's my supplies:
12x12 canvas
Jolees scrapbook stickers
scrapbook paper
sponge brush
brown paint
mod podge
brown trim with chocolate pearls

Directions:
Assemble. Lol
Apply THIN coats of your mod podge on the front and back of your paper to make it stick and hot glue the trim to the sides of the canvas.

Cute but expensive stickers!
But I couldn't do without and can use the other key and lock for scrapping about our first house!

So sweet, Avonlea's little hand print to go along with our signatures.
This was not as easy as I thought it would be!
I painted her hand and tried several different times on a seperate sheet of paper, cut out the one I liked and framed it with coordinating scrapbook paper.

Halloween Taco Salad

Who does not love taco salad? It's easy, quick and so good!
I made it for dinner tonight and was actually thinking about making Halloween themed dessert
when I had this idea..
This is great for a Halloween party or just a festive dinner with the fam. If you plan on bringing this to a party, 7 layer dip may be more appropriate.

So if I were taking this to a party, I'd definitely pull out my icing bag & tips so it doesn't look so messy. I didn't feel like putting forth that much effort since it was just for us lol. Instead, I put the sour cream in a ziplock and cut the corner.

Sorry for the bad lighting. I just wanted to get a shot of the way I layered it. I've never done that with a taco salad before but it's definitely the way to go. From bottom up; lettuce, meat, beans, onions, doritoes, fiesta cheese, cheddar cheese and sour cream with the Catalina on the side.

Okay, doing this made me hungry again! Going to get the leftovers! (:

Christmas votives--$0

So now that I've got all my Halloween stuff up, and LOVING it, I'm ready to take on Christmas!!! I decided this late last night after the stores had closed but my mind was/is swarming with ideas and I really had to do something right that instant! So I took a look at my craft stash trying to see what I could come up with and here it is...

So cute and it didn't cost me anything! This is all left-over stuff from other projects. We use a candy tree in our dining room and these will go great with the theme. I took some baby jars(I save almost all of them!) and at first I tried covering them with sugar...no beuno. They did look neat, just not the effect I wanted. Then I remembered the tub of epsom salt I have from making Mother's Day presents earlier this year, perfect! It looks like sugar ice crystals! Here's what ya do:

Take baby jars, mason jars, jelly jars or any kind of jar and clean it out. The glue from the label is very hard to get off but if there is some leftover residue it won't matter much for this project. If you want the small jar look for votives but have no baby, find one and feed it for a day. They're everywhere! But really, they're only like .60 cents a jar from Walmart. I used Modge Podge to attatch the epsom salt. It worked but I don't recommend it. Spray adhesive would be best for this. Once your jar is covered in whatever sticky stuff you use, roll it in the salt. Let it sit until it dries and then spray it with some kind of sealant.

My 'peppermints' are red bottlecaps that I painted the white swirls on. You could use real peppermints, I would've rather done that but didn't have any. Just make sure you use a sealant on them so they're not sticky, modge podge would work great for that.

Embellish however you'd like, put in a little votive candle and enjoy! Fast, cheap, easy and way too cute! Perfect for an early Christmas gift and an even better gift for a teacher. It doesn't take up much space and would look great on her desk.

P.S. these look much better in person, you'll love them! (:
